Every region in the world has an accent. If you go down to Cinicinati, you will notice that people sound different there than in Cleveland. You will even notice a slight accent difference in Toledo/Michigan area or near Pittsburg. The vowels and r's and s's sound slightly different.

I lived in Cleveland for over 40 years then moved to CA a couple of years ago. Just about everyone comments on my "accent", and usually know I'm from the midwest. I think like any area, that it is more of a regional dialect than an accent, as you would think of when meeting someone from a foreign country. I believe our Cleveland dialect is recognizable for the way we pronounce our vowels, a's and o's in particular. We also tend to drag out words a little bit more.

I would say what makes the Cleveland accent most noticable is when we say the soft 'a' sound like in the words : glass, trash, crash etc. Also we tend to pronounce words that end in ay differently than people in other parts of the country. Instead of 'Sunday' we say 'Sundee'
I grew up in OH and never thought I had and accent until I moved to CA when I was 16. Everyone used to laugh at me when I would say 'glass' and 'crash'. They said it sounded like I was saying the word while pinching my nose shut.

Hey there Medina - I'm originally from Wadsworth. Actually, I have heard many times that northeast Ohio is one of the only areas in the US that has "no accent" and pronounces "cleanly" -- you will notice that a lot of newscasters come from that area, and that's the reason. However, you can't include the folks from Rittman or Barberton. (You're probably the only one who will get that joke!)
