My daughter turns 18 in August, and will be going to college, so she still needs to be supported. Why is it that I will support her through college, but her father doesn't have to?

My daughter does work part time, and is just finishing high school! She is saving her money for school! She still needs a roof over her head, and help untill she finishes school! I just asked the question because I heard of someone else getting support, but That father is just a ggod father, and still wants to take care of his daughter, Unfortunetly, my daughter does not have a good father. Most men are glad to cut their kids off at 18, and let the mother have the rest of the responsibility! I'm ok with that. We'll make it through, and I'll be the one she thanks, not her stingy father!

I'm not sure, but I know some states require support while in college, or the lawyers have it written into the divorce decree. Check with a good attorney.

Believe his support is voluntary after 18 yo. Your daughter can get a student loan for college and pay it back when she goes to work. If you have maintained a good relationship with her father then he may help you send her to school

Who says you have to support her? My husband paid his own way through college, as did MANY other people. I made my own way at 18, I was in the Navy.

Back child support is always owed no matter what the child's age, but anything after 18 is voluntary.

Once they turn 18 that is it. Why should you have to support her. She should find ways herself to pay for college and get a job. I did it and so have many people before me. Her Father does not have to pay for anything.

sorry

if back child support is owed, that doesn't end/expire

but at 18, your daughter is no longer a child. Any support you, or her father give her is strictly voluntary.

yes I am afraid that legal age is 18 and your husband no longer has to support her cause she is of legal age regardless of college or other schooling . good luck .
