I've done the polar bear 'swim' on New Year's day several times, not sure about the temperature of the seawater but I have done it once or twice when it was freezing... usually it's about in the upper 30's or lower 40's. It's hardly swimming though, just running into the water long enough to get thoroughly wet, then straight back out.

I was about 12 . It was a friend's unheated swimming pool. I don't know the exact temperature of the water but it was enough to make my skin tingle.
It felt great though. It was 90 in the shade. I don't remember how long I swam but it was long enough so that everyone else looked at me like I was nuts.

I don't know how to swim, so none. Even if I did know how, I am not a big fan of water, and a baby when it comes to cold, so I probably wouldn't be in cold water unless I couldn't help it.

in our local swimming pool. the waters warmth varied and it was more cold then warm even though its an indoor pool. it doesn't last for long really maybe for less than 5 minutes. once you put ur whole body in the water your fine. its painfully sore but its worth it as the cold goes much faster as ur body gets used to it more quickly.

I think it was Lake Superior in late August. There was little bits of ice near the shore line. We stayed in about 20 minutes. It was many, many years ago.

Flathead lake...it made me stop breathing as soon as I jumped in. I was shaking so much and got so numb that I couldn't feel my feet. I was in there for about twenty minutes, I tried to get used to it and swam around a little
