Sick and tired of working harder for what seems to be continually deminishing returns? Are we really in fools paradise? Ever think we can change but no idea how?

I am not looking for God, nor a religion. I want some real answers from real people, who think sometimes similar thoughts. People who are beginning to look at the parallel between themselves and their world, and feel there has to be a better way.

"We must become the change we want to see in the world." Mohandas Gandhi.

For me some of that was joining the Green party.

There is a better way, in fact almost any body could put a plan together to make this world a better place. The problem arises in their are few people who desire the make this world a better place for everybody, and so many more that refuse to listen to anybody who does not already agree with them. They believe they should have a better live but also think others deserve a lesser live than themselves. Most people hate a friend who tells them the truth but love another who'd tell them a lie in their favor.
So someone who has concern like your self for a better return is resisted by someone else who thinks they should have it all.
So even one who wants even a very little is kept from the very little live needs to thrive by ones who want it all and never have enough.
Great social programs and even revolutions that talk of so much for so many are lead by people who are or become only concerned for them selves.
America as well as other great societies have accomplished much by ( I hate to tell you moral laws).s we today have become so brain washed so as to be prejudice against every word that has been abused by those we crave power. To say you can't use a knife to rob you neighbor is a moral law. So for those that are to make a statement "you can't legislate morality" know they have just told you a big lie, but many believe the myth. The worst offenders are the ones who say you can't be good so you will join them and let them lead you and absorb your wealth. Every body has a religion and a god you might think so but what you believe is your religion and who decides for you is your god Most Americans are their own god. Even those who say other wise, if you ask who tells them what to think or do they reply "Nobody I do”. There is a much better way of life but we can't obtain it for our self only for some one else. We might persuade or bribe some to serve us, but to truly change things we have to look out for the other guy or as it is said " Be our brothers keeper" our "helper" not them our servant.

it's known as 'Cultural Psychosis'

i've been ranting about it myself.

did anyone watch Tommy last night on the TV?
"We're not gonna take it, never did and never will"
That song has been in my head for over 24 hours now.

But then I was brought up on that stuff as well.

What gets to me, is I lived through the 80's once already. I don't want to relive the worst of it again. Bush Sr. now Bush Jr. same old thing. I told people. I did. But do they listen.
So, well, the man above me, has said a lot of what I do.
I don't watch soap operas, or the news. Or read newspapers. I prefer to have a feeling of being in control. Those make you feel out of control. Plus it's propaganda, and messages about how you ought to be living and what you ought to do.
Spend all your money, well okay, spend the banks money really because it's credit. So it isn't your money.

No one needs all those crap objects. I now have too many, how'd that happen. A few years ago, I was saying all I need is what I can carry on my own back.
Objects, shopping, emotional, melodramatic, lying news programs, and ads, and soaps, bring you down, make you feel helpless, inadequate. all the terrorist stuff is to make us live in fear. then we're more controllable.

I don't listen to salespeople, whatever they are selling from politics to computers. I check up on things myself as much as I can.

I pay attention to other things, around me, like nature, and wildlife. Things with some substance to them.

Turn off the "TV" or find a Station that promotes "Hope" instead of a culture of "Death".

I like PBS and the "Focus" which shows 30% of the program on a problem and then shows the remaining 70% of how it's being fixed (hope).

If you must connect to the media which is "Doom's Day" well, you can set a time limit ... like 1/2 hour or 10 minutes ... but then spend twice as long searching for solutions instead of hanging yourself in despair that they're feeing you.

Would Thomas Edison have invented the light bulb if he was siting around watching how the whales were going extinct ... nope ... his ability to leave the bad stuff and use his imagination gave the whales a chance to survive, and gave us light.

Hi!

Fed up of getting shafted by the regeneration process in my UK inner-city neighbourhood (think Highland clearances, slum clearances and Native American reservations C21st style) I helped set up a group that gives local people a say. After ignoring us for years, we now have politicians lining up to consult us and are getting a grip of the whole process for ordinary people. We have changed the way our communities are policed and so reduced crime and anti-social behaviour (largely because those once kicking against are happy to get behind something that includes everyone and is not just for a few); we have better child / youth facilities; better services for the sick & elderly and a real sense that we all belong to each other and are co responsible for making ours a happy, strong, healthy and vibrant place to live.

Don't sit by and let it fall appart - go make things better and fairer for everyone.

Good wishes.

Seems to me what you are looking for is a religion although you say its not.

You are now aware of your place in life and realise your true beliefs and values dont fit in here.

What you need to do now is find a society that shares your views. Its easier this way you wont feel so isolated and useless.

Research some religious groups----dont laugh it off I thought you wanted to find somnething real.....see what group fits your current beliefs about life and love.

Go to religious selector on the web. very interesting. Then narrow it down to Christian denominations if you are Christian.

I recommend a bit of study into Quakers they are out there doing not preaching, did you know...they started greenpeace, amnesty international, oxfam to mention a few.

oh boy... I am so very much on your wave length! I find some comfort in just being able to identify that there is a major problem with society and its NOT just me, I also try to find solace in working around what i cant fight head on!

lets break it down into the component parts

1) Society stress. This is the symptom rather then the disease! we all feel it because we are all a part of the body of society, from the richest to the poorest. Its the sum of all our fears and frustration and we have to learn to use it rather then suffer from it. The wealthy fear change for the worse, they fear new tax's and new social conventions that will effect there "way of life" and might potentially change it forever. For the middle class it is fear of loosing that gram of precious Independence and sliding down into the pit of commonality no matter how hard they work to make ends meet. For the lowest its the fear of hunger, not making the rent, court summons for a £65 phone bill and seeing their children in rags.
The symptoms have remained the same for the span of human history, indeed so have the causes as we shall see.

2) Society Values/Measures/Expectations. These are the root of the problem and allways have been. Our own values are a constant but societies change constantly. For my generation (the 30-35 year olds) it was to work and be paid a fair wage and to live WITHIN your meens while bettering yourself to be worth (and eventualy paid) more. Today the society tells us to live on credit, to buy this or that MUST have item and to expect/demand a set level of comfort whether we can afford or not. Our kids tell us they will be bullied if they dont have a £100 mobile phone, i ask you!!! 9 years olds with cell phones.. chriest! Oh dear... What we have now is SUPER HIGH LEVELS OF STRESS in society due to a great degree to a lot of us living beyond our meens. The solution is to be apart from the herd and to try to reverse the trend by teaching the kids to DO WITHOUT WHAT THEY CAN NOT AFFORD. If your job is pushing shopping carts and your wife is a cleaning lady then GUESS WHAT? dont buy your kids a cell each year and dont buy them the PSP with its £50 a week games!!!!!! What it all boils down to is honesty... dont buy into the lies of tv (eg Soaps... i was forced to endure pleb tv whilst visiting my grandmother and watched an hour of sunday eastenders.. poor londoners all with cell phones, laptops, psp's, nice cars and they all own houses..well 90% of them! And these are "Working class Londoners" !?! ... no wonder they all dress like scum and live on beans on toast). IN SHORT> IGNORE THE MADNESS AND BE A GOOD MAN WITH A CLEAR HEAD!

3) politics. THERE IS NO SOLUTION TO HOW WE FEEL ABOUT OUR ELECTED LEADERS! Vote, be active at a local/parish council level, Send letters to your mp daily..use your rights rather then moan that your powerless! RUN FOR OFFICE if you want to join the "Other" side! AND DONT STOP ASKING GREAT QUESTIONS LIKE THIS ONE!!!
Trust me , the buggers do check these postings to see how angry we all our getting!

IN SHORT>>> THERE IS NO BETTER WAY! any political solution that works for you will allmost cirtainly make somone else's life a living hell. Socialism is a myth, Comunism a repressive fact hidden by a noble ideal, Going green and living on a commune will not save you from court summons.

Please just focus on your income, look at getting the best education for your kids, IGNORE what society tells you is the level to live at... if you cant afford a holiday then a credit card will only delay the court summons. If your in debt then review your spending, if your family moan at you IGNORE THEM , at least one person in a family has to be sane! Free your mind with books, learn about politics and philosophy..understand as much as you can and share that wisdom. TAKE WALKS IN THE PARK/COUNTRYSIDE, go fishing, take up jogging or just put an hour asside each day to turn off all the electro-gizmo's and relax with a drink and a book... the only real freedom we have is the freedom inside our own minds...
USE IT.

Relax. It is the best form of stress release. Don't analyze every little thing and just go with the flow. There are many things in the world that are going on that piss us off but you must realise that many of them are out of our control. Relax take a load off. Do something that makes you happy there must be something as long as it doesn't make someone else unhappy. I have been stressed untold times with the world but it gets you nowhere.

Looks like your focusing on all the negative effects that a lot of us could harp on about. If you want a better salary, and whatever else it is your dreaming of then make it happen. Sounds like your the only depressing factor in your life sat on your **** asking us if we feel the same, your focus needs top be on you dont you think.
Good luck...hope society/stress/values/measures/working hard give you a break in life......aint going to happen!

"Change the way you think and you change your world." Maybe you can try to manage your spending and not spend $ on unnecessary stuff so you can save $. You can change but first change your thinking in a more positive way and things will get better.
