Probably natural. Looking to get the best mate for reproduction all to ourselves. Probably was a male trait first, wanting to only care for his off spring. It just evolved in some strange cultural ways and developed strongly among the ladies too.

I think it's intrinsically a natural trait but one that can be dealt with or at least lowered to the point where it has little or no effect. I used to have a jealous streak as a kid but now I just find it to be a waste of energy.
