Last night I tried to start my car, and it would not start up. There was a slight sound that it made when I tried. It was not a dead battery because the lights and everything were all working. After shaking the car from front to back I tried to start my car and it worked, only it didn't sound too good when I did. While driving, my lights and everything started to get dim and die out when I pressed the brake, but everything was fine when I was pressing the accelerator. Could anyone tell me what might be the problem? Earlier in the day I accidentally filled my car with gas while it was still running. Could this have created the problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I would suggest trying to replace your stater because by sounds of things if you rocked your car back and forth in order to get the car to start it sounds like the solenoid is starting to go and it would cause your starter to drag while trying to start your car and that would explainthe noise when starting your car and if startter is starting to drag and stick it can cause loss of power to your battery and lights as most charging systems charge your battery via travelling from your altenator to your starter to your battery

We purchase previous autos each and all the time and battery subject concerns continually arise. Heres are 2 techniques that should help save it commencing & what it ought to be. One vehicle wasn't pushed interior the winters & if left it to long without driving would not initiate the two. So each and every few days i could initiate it for a couple of minutes. If I waited longer then that i could wish a bounce. i could basically attempt this if i replaced into you. yet another vehicle would not initiate & had to be jumped each and every morning. After identifying to purchase 3 new batteries we found out the Antenna replaced into the reason. by some ability draining the battery. We disconnected the antenna and have not had an issue because of the fact. probable no longer what's inflicting your problem yet basically a heads up that something small like that should be what's incorrect.

All these folk have really good suggestions... try the easier ones first.... Put a charger on the battery for immediate care... To see if it's the charging system check the voltage on the battery with the engine running - you should see 14 or so volts DC... If you see much less than that then you KNOW it's the charging system... That's the most likely problem... From my experience - it's the alternator/generator. UNLIKELY the gas fill-up had anything to do with it... Best of luck to you! I've been there!...

I would check your alternator, or the battery cables- they may be loose. Getting gas while your car is running is no big deal they dont suggest it b/c it could spark a fire with the gasoline but my husband used to do it all the time. When in doubt you can take it to an Advance Auto Parts or any place like that a get a free car check.

Filling it with gas while running won't cause any problems(unless it is a diesel). It could still be the battery they can sometimes still power the lights when its near dead. If the noise was a clicking noise could be the starter solenoid. Hard to say with out knowing what car.

Your car has a bad alternator because when your car accelerates the drive belts spin faster and the alternator spins faster because its belt driven and the alternator build a slight charge but only during big acceleration. Long story short get a new alternator because you can burn up your computer in you car because of a power surge.

My guess would be the alternator is bad. Bad gas can make a vehicle run bad but not cause any type of electronic problems (at least I've never heard of it before) Good luck

You are having alternator problems, and you car is running on battery power alone. Take it to an auto parts store and they will test it for free.
