Second only to a French film called "Claire's Knee", "My dinner with André" was the most tedious, snore inducing film Ive ever seen.

...i actually liked it.

but when i went to see it, i knew the "plot," so i was not disappointed.

one of my fondest memories is of a saturday evening with my best friend, his fiancee, my then GF and i sitting on a floor with blenders filled with frozen dacquiris and assorted munchies. we sat and talked for hours on end about any and everything. and we all learned things about one another we never knew before.

yeah, i had heard the word "pretentious" used to describe this film before. but i think that most of us can think of times in our pasts when we have had long, rambling conversations about ...well, life, the world, whatever. and i think if we look back on them now, we might feel we were totally full of crap. but at the time, everything we said made perfect sense. that's sort of what that movie reminds me of. and it's why i liked it.

but hey, i haven't seen it in awhile, so maybe it will seem pretentious to me now also. (i hope not.) but upon its initial release, i really liked it.
