Well, that about sums it up. My brakes make a noise only in one situation - the first time I back down my driveway after I've been driving in the rain (even if I was driving in rain a full day before). My driveway is a downhill slope. While I'm backing down, there's some light squeaking. As I brake harder to come to a complete stop at the bottom of the hill, there's a deeper-pitched squeal.

The brakes stop the car just fine at all times.

Would you take your car to the mechanic with this? Or chalk it up to wet brakes & downhill momentum? I'd rather avoid spending money at the mechanic if possible, but you know, I'll go if I'm in danger of careening into my neighbor's yard.

Maybe I should have mentioned that it's a 94 Buick Lesabre.

Sounds like the brake shoes either need lubrication or they need to be replaced, you can get it fixed for pretty cheap, or just deal with the noise.

do not sweat this one the reason for the noise is due the the rust film the builds up in the rain on damp weather! Most gm do this! the rust needs to be cleaned off by the pads!

It's a lot cheaper to replace the brake pads today, rather than brake pads AND rotors later.

Have them checked.....
