Pepto Bismol, spinach, and iron pills will produce black stools. Otherwise, it could be something you need to see your doctor about. He/she is qualified, trained, and licensed to give you medical advice. Good luck.

If your stool is black, you probably either have a source of blood somewhere in your digestive tract or you may just have to much iron in your diet.
(Some common sources of blood in your stool via your digestive tract can be anything from ulcers to hemorrhoids. It varies from mildly annoying to life threatening.)

If I were you, I would get to a doctor- NOW. ("Do not pass go, do not collect $200" type doctors visit!)

I hope you find out it's something as simple (and non-dangerous) as having to much iron in your system. Good luck & good health.

Stool that is black can mean there's blood in it. Better check it out just to be safe. Call your doctor and get a fecal sample checked.

Think about what you ate....If nothing comes to mind that would turn feces dark, it could be blood. Bright, red blood usually means fissures or hemorrhoids....if its dark, its something farther up the intestines and is very serious. How often does this happen?
