I feel it would be more appropriate to bring a box of eggs - and pelt him with them.

It depends on his age and location at the time. At some times in his life, when he was traveling and preaching, it would be very good to bring him an apple.
At the times of Paul, when he was against and then supported him, it would become a dangerous thing to do. Once he was watched and becoming judged by the cities' elders, it became dangerous to be associated with him.
Before his 32nd birthday, it would be appropriate. After this, maybe a helicopter to rescue him from execution.

Well, if he wasn't dead, then this question might be more relevant . . .
My sense also is that in biblical times the practice of bringing and apple to the teacher was likely not established so I'm not sure Jesus would have understood the meaning.

Sure.
Apply is metaphorically the symbol for the "Tree of Knowledge of good & evil" ... Jesus is already wise in these matters. So, he get's the fruit of "knowledge" and "eternal life" (what we gave up for knowledge). Jesus is actually sent to give us the "fruit of eternity", so, a gift of an apple is kinda weak ... usually God want's us to convert knowledge into wisdom ... so try making an apple pie instead.

Think Jesus would have wanted more than an apple......possibly a box of ferrerot rochet chocolates and a bottle of wine would be good (church wine is watered down too much)

No, Apples originated in China.
You would be better giving him a date or fig.

Nice point.
It's probably a tenth-level-of-Hell blasphemy to imply that the "teacher" needs the fruit of knowledge.
You might get away with it, as long as you don't then mutter, "God knows he *needs* it!"

As long as it didn't have a worm hole in it, because worms are kinda like snakes, and snakes are Satan's minions...
And you don't want to gross out poor Mr. Jesus in front of the whole class...!!!

...bringing it to him might be tough, but He'll be coming back 'round these parts in a spell or two.
You could have one ready for Him when He does get here, but there's no tellin' when that's gonna be...
