Everytime foreigners come in to work that can't speak English, I begin to speak very deliberately and extremely loud. For some reason I think they'll understand me better. They aren't deaf, they just don't comprehend English. Do you do that? Or am I the only one? Do you think it is as funny as I do??. I also use hand gestures a lot more. They probably aren't mimes either, so I look like a real tool flailing my arms about.... ha

i know what you mean, it does feel a bit silly but i don't think it's as ridiculous as you make it sound. it's natural to do that and if you speak slower and clearer it's easier to understand. i'm living in a country where i don't speak the language very well and i appreciate it if people speak slower to me so i can understand more.

No. I have to add that it is very irritating when people assume foreigners aren't good at English because they have a strong accent. Accent has nothing to do with fluency. Make sure the 'foreigner' is truly poor at English before you patronize him or her.

I'll speak somewhat more slowly, but never loudly. Speaking loudly at anybody, much less someone who isn't fluent in your native language, is an exercise in bad manners. And if I know any words in their language at all, I'll try to use them. There's such a thing as being polite.

No. I wouldn't do that. Picture yourself having to relocate & move to another country to live/work there, trying to adapt to the new place, trying to speak their language, how would you feel if they shout at you for misunderstanding a word? (Even though it's not shouting but still, you make it seem so)
