My telephone has call waiting and I use dial up connection. I need a modem so i would be alerted when I'm receiving calls. I frequently miss important calls when I'm on the net.

There is a program that is already part of your package that works in conjnction with your call waiting/caller ID.

You dont need a new modem, just install the program. It is your phone companies responsiblity to configure it. Dont call dell, hp, compaq, sony, etc.

The best thing is to move to a cable or dsl connection. That way yure surfing faster and you can get all your phonecalls.

If you spent the money on a Dell computer, I think investing in a cable connection would be well worth your time. No more missed calls, and even better, you can use broadband phone services like Vonage (I think Yahoo offers a similar service, as does Verizon and Comcast: once again, not entirely sure of those). You can talk all you want for a fixed rate of about 20 bucks a month. The sound quality isn't as good as a normal line, but you won't notice the difference.

If you switch to cable and a broadband phone service, you may actually save more (and be happier) than just using a modem and a regular phone line.

A 3Com PCMCIA card (those flat 2 inch slots on the side of most laptops)
Should do you fine. Check out their products for the one that does what you want at www.3com.com. Then do a search on eBay or Yahoo for a good price.

Good Luck
