Why does the UK have worthless tabloid rags (aka 'newspapers') with these titles? Why aren't there any called The Earth? The Moon? Why is this galactic prejudice tolerated?
(Yes, it's a ridiculous question, but it makes a change from The McCanns, doesn't it?)

saorsie: No, I never buy them either - they are fit for usage as toilet roll, nothing more, and even THAT is only in desperate circumstances.

I very seldom buy Newspapers at all and certainly not the Sun and Star. My Father and Mother would buy two Newspapers a Day and about 5 on Sunday.Three British and Two Irish in the Days of the Large Broadsheets. Now I buy one every 3-4 Months or so. The English Times and Mirror or The Irish Independent or Irish Times. I get most of my News on the Internet ,sometimes Newspapers on the Net .I like Reading the French ones like Liberation or Le Monde or Le Figaro to learn French. There are People who actually Buy these Thrash Newspapers The Sun and Star I dont Know why ,must be for the Picture of the semi Clad Girl on Page 3 . Good Luck

The Sun because people wake up to the newspaper as they do to the sun. The sun is the giver of life and throughtout history has always been worshiped so the having the name is The Sun means it is important *(although in this case it is not)Throughout the world newpapers are called the sun....In spanish El Sol and so forth..As for the star well the Sun had already been taken!! hmm why have I made my answer so serious to a silly question????

They just pick titles which are easy to spell and remember. If you gave a title like 'The Earth' people who read it would get confused with the spelling. They have to pick words which the reader can actually read or they would have to aim at a higher market.

Because S is one of the favourite letters in the English language.
We like to use words that begin with "s' so titles with that as a starter letter will be favoured.
'T' is another firm favourite by the way.
That newspapers that start with S often concentrate on puerile crap , (sports aside I guess), is another issue.

I really don't know. I used to know a man who bought a 'red top' every day, took it to work and even bothered to take it home every night. Perhaps it's for the pictures? (Something to talk about)

LOL...yes
Do we actually have any REAL newspapers?
It seems all we have are organs that serve to represent the vermin in our society who are the most willing to pay for intellectual garbage.
