I have a new PC with2 x 512 MB DDR2 533mhz memory.
I also have 2 x 512MB DDR PC2100 from my old pc.

should I install the old memory in my machine? will it be faster or slower with the 2GB of mixed (slower) memory than with 1GB of fast memory?

NO WAY! Your ddr2 modules have 240 pins. Your old ddr PC2100 only have 184 pins.

Even on some special motherboards that have both ddr AND ddr2 slots, you can only use ONE TYPE of slot at a time and NOT all at the same time.

errr no fella, its impossible, DDR2 runs at different frequencies and different clock speeds, its way faster than DDR, sell it!

use the link provided and get a stick of 1gb DDR2 533mhz for £23 if use google checkout!!...(save £10 on all orders over £30 when you use google check out)

It won't fit. DDR memory has 184 pins, while DDR2 memory has 200 pins.
I will buy the old ram from you if you want to sell it.

you CAN mix any memory you want, but a general rule with any computer component which has a "speed" attached to is is

"you fastest possible speed is your slowest connection", so the best performance you wil get is that of your 2100 memory
