And to add insult to this, they're having it in the events center of the major University of the area! I'm thinking about staging a protest with some friends, a peaceful one just to promote intelligence and science over these fools who preach that the world is 6,000 years old and dinosaurs walked with man, among other rubbish.

So any ideas? I was thinking about holding up some posters outside, with some of their ridiculous preachings, to point them out. I don't know what else. They took out the front page in the newspaper for it, with a quote from some guy around here saying "It will change the community forever." What a joke!

Any ideas here would be great, especially anything specific. Thanks!

Also, this is a predominantly Catholic area, with lots of Irish and Italians. If you have anything relating to the evangelicals' criticism of Catholicism, that would probably be good, too.

I'm not susceptible to being brainwashed, Deb. Thanks for the suggestion though.

That's a good idea, one eyed jack. Not to set myself on fire because there is no reason to kill myself over something like this, but I have a Rage Against the Machine fabric poster of their first album cover, the Buddhist setting himself on fire in the street. I could bring that, too!

why don't you really make a point, try setting your self on fire like the Buddhist did in Vietnam.

I was never scared of religious people they are too hypocritical and blinkered by the Church. But I'm getting concerned, scared even, how the right wing fundamentalist are behaving. Just look at the news!
I don't blame you for protesting 'peacefully' If I were young enough I'd join you.
You cannot argue with them; as you may well know. Shouting points of view at each other never really solves any arguments.
It's a shame I don't have any practical idea's to offer to you for handling these twerps. However, be vigilant and don't take them lightly, or seriously. I know that's a contradiction in terms, but they are slippery customers because they tend toward their idea's mainly on the young and uneducated: it's always been that way.
Good luck to you my friend. I say my friend because friends are just people you haven't met yet.

Why is he going there, I mean what is the prominent message he will be tackling? Is it about creationism? If it isn't then your protest towards evolution would look a little out of place.
Find the main topic that they will be covering and hit that head on.
Keep it peaceful too. Even if these "godly" people get in your face and damn you to hell, stay respectful and calm. This will not only bug the heck out of them, but it will give them less ammunition to call YOU guys the troublemakers.

However, I do like Jessica's suggestion too!

I've been an atheist, agnostic, and Buddhist in my long life. A couple of months ago I finally came to my senses and became a Christian.

I understand how you feel. I once felt that way too.

However, I suggest you go and listen. You might just learn something and it could be a life changing experience if you let it.

Either stay away and do something that you enjoy, or go and learn what the enemy has to say. You know whet they say,"Knowledge is Power". That way next time you will know exactly what to say in rebuttal.
