I had a full arm cast almost to my shoulder. I used a large trash bag, and taped it very well to my arm above the cast. When it the shower I rested my arm against the wall over my head so if the bag had any leaks the water would not run into the cast.

I couldn't take a bath because I had a broken pelvis and couldn't get in or out of a bath tub. Some people only have a shower and not a tub/shower, by the way.
Even if you take a bath cover your cast with plastic.

I had to deal with this a couple of months ago... if your cast is not waterproof, a trashbag works pretty good (or a walmart bag, as long as it doesn't have any holes in it). I used electrical tape (it's the only kind that won't get soggy in water) and taped the bag around my skin above the cast... if your cast is waterproof (which most these days are), then you can get it wet, but it takes a while to dry, and can cause your skin underneath to get really dry & itchy. I ended up putting a rubber glove over the hand portion of the cast and taping it up w/ electrical tape. I then took a ziplock bag and cut the bottom off so it looked like a plastic tube. I put my arm through it and taped it to my skin above the cast so water wouldn't run down into the cast. Since the outer shell was waterproof, it didn't matter if I got it wet. It was a pain though.. give yourself @ least 10 extra minutes to get ready in the mornings... good luck.

Am There!-Done That! I broke my wrist on Memorial Day-sitting here now with the ./j^&*($ thing hurting like hell. I've been using the plastic sleeve that the morning newspaper comes in, and securing it at the top with a ponytail holder.

The whole thing's a real pain in the butt, eh?-Speaking of which, I've found one of the hardest things to do is "cleaning up" THAT area after going potty. Yuck. 5 more weeks of this, too!

The ER worker is an idiot. Try taking a bath instead of a shower, it will be easier. There are covers you can buy but they are expensive.

You could try a plastic garbage bag and duct tape, but it could be painful taking the tape off. And garbage bags aren't always waterproof.

Baby powder helps to control the itching.

Upon discharge for my er, I tell my patients with a similar situation like you to use a small garbage bag and tape it or tie it tight around the effected limb. But don't tie it too tight!

When i had surgery on my knee and had a cast i wrapped my leg with a garbage bag. and used duct tape. For your wrist you could use saran wrap or a grocery store bag with duct tape. Good luck.
