I don't think there's one most romantic era. Things always look better than they were/are romanticized after time has passed.

I'd prefer to live in a time/place that is peaceful and idealistic, but a "romantic era" often involves strife, anguish and heroism (e.g., wars, societal upheaval). Wouldn't it be great/romantic if you lost people you loved dearly in a terrifying event? The romance gives meaning/significance to difficult times. They're still difficult.
