I made one of these from sheet metal, and put it in my 95 aurora, then later my 95 lumina. They are supposed to increase air flow, giving better mpg's. Recently someone told me the better mpg's were a result of the insert actually starving the engine for air, which makes no sense to me. Ive gotten an increase of 2-3 mpg in each car after using it.

No they don't Popular Mechanics and Consumer Reports both tested them, Tornado and knock offs and they actually gave less power and used more fuel as they obstructed the air flow going into the engine. This makes sense because most cold air intakes make more power and if driven normally give a little better gas mileage.

it increases it by a couple horse power, not a real difference, because the spiral twist the air, mixing it up,kind of like sifting the air so it can fit in to your throttle.be cause when air just flows thru straight it gets clogged ,so to speak.same principles as a toilet, you see how it has a whirl wind effect makes it easier to get all that water thru that lil hole.well, with that whirl wind you get more air,the more air you get the bigger the combustion.more air fuels the fire.less air starves a fire.same thing with cold air intakes.cold air is compressed, air is expandedso you get more air in your intake when its compressed.

No. Neither does strapping magnets to your gas line to line up the molecules all in the same direction, or any of the other scams out there.

tell yourself that all these spirals and mechanical witch hunts are adding to the gas mileage and you will make that come true by the mere self hypnotic no-lead foot approach to your driving skills and technical abilities of automobile mechanics and usage .... for real .....

Don't believe the story. If it was true, the inserts would sell like wildfire and everyone would have one.
