I have played Bottom at school, my nephew toured as Bottom a couple of years ago and my son and daughter have both played Bottom at school. Yesterday my son got a paper Elizabethan theatre and we have just finished putting on a performance of MND!

Bottom is of course, a lousy actor and very over-the-top. Many extravagent gestures and much strutting around seems to work! Have great fun!

Hey dude. You have to rememeber that Bottom is not a great actor, but he thinks that he is, so when yo're playing Pyramus, play it with Bottom total belief that he is giving the public an amazing performance - the performance they've been waiting for. So, when you do the death scene, do it with the total conviction of a bad actor who thinks he's brilliant - do you get me? If you can find the way Bottom would create the character of Pyramus, then you're set. Best of luck. Let me know how it goes.

Ham it up, man! Pyramus is a noble character, but being played by a horrible actor with an inflated senes of his own ability!
If I were you-I'd put your own mark on the character-give Bottom some interesting/funny/quirky characteristics and mannerisms that he puts on when "playing" Pyramus-like what he'd imagine Pyramus to be! Have fun with it!

I played that part in my college production of the play. The way that I played it was to be melodramatic for the play within a play part. Almost to the point of being overly melodramatic.
The best advice that I can give you is just to have fun with it. The language can tough, but once you understand it, you will love your part.

The other answers have it pretty much right. The key is, don't be subtle. Bottom overacts and hams it up outrageously, so you should play the scene with the most excessive, histrionic attitude you can.

I'd watch the movie versions of the play and see how the actor that played Bottom does it. I think the most recent version has Calista Flockhart and Kevin Kline in it.
