I'm a shy type-and hate meat-market bars etc-have some passtimes and a job I love-but in between-there is something missing. Am away from family and friends since moving, and find it hard, and always feel empty (not suicidal-just alone/bored etc)-anyone any practical ideas?

Make a list of 20 things to do and then do them. Take up an interest like photography or blogging that you can share with the world. Reading always helps me. Exercise is great to as it kicks off a lot of endorphines. Music also helps me feel empowered. There is always contact via im and email, maybe funnel your energy into building a web page or blog so you can communicate to your friends and family what you are doing.

Start a garden.
Learn to cook.
Join a club or religious group.
Try all f these in a rotation. Take a cooking class or any other kind of class. You will meet new and interesting people and your life will be full of new adventures!

I think you need more meaningful relationships, either romantic or platonic. You can find them online, but try to stick to locals, so you can find friends you can hang out with!
