Bach is the man, but BEETHOVEN IS THE MAESTRO!

Felix Mendelssohn. Reasons: writing the overture to "A Midsummer Night's Dream" at 17, reintroducing the world to Bach's "Matthew Passion", writing the "Italian" Symphony, and having a happy marriage, among other reasons. Plus, anyone who irritated Wagner (whom I also admire) and the Nazis (whom I despise) solely by his existence can't be all that bad.

Really, choosing a favorite classical composer is like choosing a basic human need, especially if you include Mozart, Bach, and Beethoven.

By the way, I just discovered Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 4 in G. Herr Beethoven might soon reclaim his spot from Herr Mendelssohn as my personal favorite.

I love playing/listening to Edvard Grieg and his Norweigian Tunes!! I also enjoy Shostakovich, Stravinsky, Tchaikovsky, and many many others (actually, probably all). -- except for (well, look in the 'which composer do you hate' Q.)
