I never use bleach. I use dishwasher detergent. Try Electrasol that has no rinsing agent in it. I find it whitens beautifully!

The best thing really is the good old fashioned soap bar, soap. You can find this in your local hardware store. soak first in cold water rub the soap on leave like this for 1/2 hr then pop into a normal wash. The next best thing to make your uniform whiter than white, is to hang it outside in the sun, The sun will do the rest of the bleaching for you, Your uniform will be whiter than white

Get cleaner laundry! Add about 1/4 cup white distilled vinegar to the last rinse. The acid in white distilled vinegar is too mild to harm fabrics, yet strong enough to dissolve the alkalies in soaps and detergents. Besides removing soap, white distilled vinegar prevents yellowing, acts as a fabric softener and static cling reducer, and attacks mold and mildew.
Bring out bright colors by adding 1/2 cup white distilled vinegar to the rinse cycle.

The products "Spray n' Wash" or "Shout" will help tough spots that need a little white boost - for instance if you had a white t-shirt that got the yellow armpit stains on it, then you'd use one of the above mentioned products & it will get the white back in the t-shirt & take the stink out....

Not that I recommend it , but in the old day urine and sunlight was used.
I find Cascade dish washing powder works well for white clothing in the washer and along with your regular detergent when you can't use bleach.
