OK, so here's the deal. I got my online SAT scores back today but I'm not sure what kind of opportunities they will give me as far as colleges go. If you could list the schools that would accept my scores and if they would be high enough for merit-based scholorships I would greatly appreciate it!

Critical Reading: 800
Math: 670
Writing: 630
Essay: 8 out of 12 (2 readers= each scored me a 4 out of 6)

I get good grades (3.8 GPA), do a lot of community service, and play guitar professionaly in a band.

Just out of curiosity, where do you guys think I should go?

I'm interested in Engineering, Business, Chemistry, etc.

Thanks!

I'd say just about any. Apply to any school you want and let them decide. Give me an idea of what part of the country you are interested in and I could be more specific, but right now, how about UC Berkley?

They have good science programs.

I hope the idiot above me is joking, or else it makes me lose hope in humanity. The asker can get into MIT or Caltech with a math score of 670? Stanford with a 2100 SAT score? Harvard? Either you've never graduated high school, or you're an idiot. The asker may have a shot at lesser ivies, including Cornell, as well as places like Berkeley and Georgetown

judging by what my grandchildren reported they got a couple of years ago, you'll be trading on your GPA, community work, and outside interest if you try for a really top institution.

And a merit scholarship at the elite schools just isn't in the cards.

You'll likely be accepted at your state university [are you in Kansas?] or somewhere 'lesser'.

However, merit based scholarships would seem more likely at a lower ranking school.

Alas, I know zip about program quality in engineering, business, or sciences at UKansas, KSU, or anywhere else within several states.

You could definitely get into some of the best schools in the country: Cornell, Johns Hopkins, Duke, etc.

I think you should go to Stanford or MIT for engineering; Harvard or Penn for business; or Harvey Mudd or Caltech for chemistry.

Best of luck to you!

wow. 800 on the reading is really good (that's my worst section). I think you could get into the top schools with those scores. 2100 is the minimum they're looking for. and a lot of schools still don't really look at the writing section, which would give you a 1470 on the old SAT scale (really good). you could retake it to try to bring up your writing, but i think those scores are good.
