This almost happened to me last night, I was wondering if there is anything I can do in case that ever happens? I am living out of state this summer, and it would have been a huge pain to have to go back to Indiana to get a new drivers license.

This happened to me once too. You go to the police station and tell them that the bouncer jacked your ID. They will get that guy into trouble and they will return it to you. And always write you ID number somewhere.

Kick his @$$ - j/k. I would call the police and have them come out to resolve the matter. I am sure there are rules involved with confiscating someones ID and it does not seem right that the doorman could just take it.

A doorman does not have the right to take away your ID, only a police officer can do that. He can only deny you entry to the establishment he works for.

A doorman does have the legal right to take your I.D. His options are to tell you to leave (with your ID with you) or turn the ID over to the police for investagtion.

A doorman is not a cop. He has no right to detain you or take away your id. He can simply not let you in and make you go away.

Its simple...call the police and say that your id was stolen. Tell them you know who it was, where it is and what happened BUT you're afraid to go get it yourself. To sound scary say it like this...
"Look, if you take my idea we're gonna have a BIG problem. I mean if you ever smoked a joint, lied on your taxes or scratched your balls in public the cops are gonna know about it. And then, im going to sue you for grand theft larceny, which, if you didn't know tubby, its a federal felony."
The last bouncer i said that to almost pissed himself...and that was over a fake.
Please don't call the cops if its fake though. You'll get sued.

Under what authority would a doorman act to take anybodies drivers license? Answer: He has no authority. If he takes away your license he is doing something illegal.

A doorman at a privately owned club CANNOT legally confiscate any of your property whatsoever. They can only make you leave the premises.

No one can legally take your id and not give it back. Contact the Police and file charges on that creep. Bouncer has no right to hold your personal property and especially your ID.

Yes. Report it to the police. That's theft.

As an alternative, wait till the next day, go back to the establishment, see the manager. If then they don't return it, report it to the police.
