You know what's nice about old graveyards, or the oldest sections of modern graveyards that date back at least a couple hundred years? The epitaphs. You know, things like "As you are now so once was I. As I am now so too shall you be."
I know it's not something that not on all the really old tombstones and is supposed to still be being done. And I know having an epitaph is supposed to be a sign that you could afford the extra carving work. But to be honest, I've yet to see one on a modern tombstone where as it seems like every few feet in an old graveyard you find a tombstone with one on it. Course look at the price of coffins today verses back then, and the thickness and type of stones used for tombstones.
But also it seems like more care was taken to make tombstones then compared to now.

Yes, I do. I think being in old graveyards is amazing, I love anything remotely history related. When I was on vacation over in New Brunswick, I went into a loyalist graveyard, and I was like wet myself happy because loyalists had been part of what we were studying in history class. Only problem is if I go in there at night, I am just about the biggest chicken that you will ever meet, if I go into a cemetary at night I need to have 1 person carrying me, and then 4 other people(1 on each side, and one in front and 1 behind) around me. People make me feel better...unless I mistake them for a killer zombie!

I absolutely love old graveyards!! We have several here that are more than a couple of hundred years old & all over the countryside you can find small, fenced in old family graveyards. A couple of ours are pretty historic; we have Presidents buried in them, Civil War heroes, etc. They even give guided tours through our Hollywood cemetery. The attention to detail on the stones or the crypts is incredible. We don't have anything like that available now. The graveyard at Colonial Williamsburg is really terrific! They've had to wall it off because the graves were showing wear from tourists, but you used to be able to roam amongst the stones & look. All of the symbolism about death, pillars broken in half, trees chopped down or broken, obelisks draped in fabric - nobody does stuff like that anymore. I wouldn't even mind living near an old cemetery; hey, at least the neighbors would be quiet!!!

Yes, I visit old cemeteries all the time, day or night. My husband even proposed to me in a graveyard! We also do EVP's after midnight every so often.

Love them. In Tennessee, near a lil' town called Hilham; there is an old cemetary where you can hear a motorcycle crash if your there on the anniversary of the death of 1 of "Hell's Angels"..I'm not sure of his first name , but last name was Thompson....True Story....
