Don't ship the ring until you're very sure the check has cleared and won't be returned by your bank. You'll have to ask your bank how long that will take. Personally, I'd probably ask for an international money order rather than a check.

You can get legit looking cashier's checks from out of the country. anyone with a computer and printer can make them .. and make them look good enough to fool the bank.

The bank will hold YOU responsible for all charges, including the checks you might bounce because you thought the cashier's check covered the funds.

You cannot tell if the check is legit. The bank won't even know for several weeks. This is why international sales are such a problem.

Don't acccept ANY payment type that you are not 100% familiar with.. because you won't know a fraud from a legit transaction. and YOU are the one who will be left paying for any and all charges. (Plus not have the merchandise anymore)

Ask your bank how long it takes to clear a check from the DR and let the prospective buyers know that it will take x number of days for any transaction to be completed. If they are honest, it will be no problem. If they are not, they'll try to intimidate you into accepting a payment form that you are not familiar with.

ps .. another version of the international scam has the 'buyer' sending you TOO MUCH money, telling you to keep a certain portion of the remainder for your trouble.. and send them back the rest via Western Union. they'll even tell you the address of the branch closest to you. (for your convenience, of course)

Needless to say, the check is still bad, and you're out the merchandise PLUS the rest of the money you wired them. Western Union will do nothing to help you or protect you in cases of fraud.

If they're so Western Union savvy, tell them to send it to YOU via Western Union. Or better yet .. uncut diamonds. or bullion ..

Take heed of the advice you have gotten to this question. I advertised a collector car on a local site, got a response from there, I didn't even answer it. Your ring will be gone, and you will be left with nothing. The advise you got here is good advise, please take it.

You don't! be very leary of this .....I would notify the person{'s} send the check back to sender.
back out of the deal myself!
It could be a scam also.......

Take out an aid in your local paper about the ring or send a pic of it and info to ebay!

Be careful, it could be counterfeit. Do not send it until you find out the check is good. If all responses are from that country then is may be fraud.

they will send you a check and it will bounce
it takes 24 days to get it cleared.. use paypal or something else...but do not send anything anywhere out of the country.. or do it at your own risk
sell it on ebay and you are protected
