Window space is valuable in small nyc apartments. Looking for a way to avoid AC.

All a dehumidifier does is remove the moisture from the air. It does actually generate a small amount of heat. Removing the moisture from the air will make it more comfortable, however you cannot open a window. If you open a window, moist air will come in and defeat the purpose of the dehumidifier.

All a dehumidifier does is take moisture out of the air to make it less muggy. It doesn't necessarily cool the air but make it a little more comfortable. It's great for people w/allergies but should be used IN CONJUNCTION w/ AC; not as a substitute. Short of ceiling fans and checking areas around windows and doors to make sure seals are not porous to be sure you're keeping your AC inside, I'm out of ideas! Good luck on your quest!

A dehumidifier will help you feel less clammy and sweaty, but I don't think it'd make a complete substitution. Air conditioners also dehumidify the air.

They have new air conditioners that only use a small port that vents to outside, and don't require window installation. These are not cheap, but if you value your window space, it'd be a neat thing to have.

they dont make things cooler just less humid is all. They do have floor AC.s that you can just set on you kitchen floor or something, and it will cool the air.
