Could anyone give me a list of important people (president, civil rights, etc.) who have given a speech about the american dream?

preferably the people should be from different decades so that I can track the progression of the dream.

Tough question - but off the top of my head I would throw out
Martin Luther King, Lyndon Johnson, Robert Kennedy, Malcolm X, FDR, Eisenhower, Truman, and Kurt Vonnegut.

" Every Child had a pretty good shot
To get at least as far as their old man got"

Billy Joel, "Allentown"

It's actually a brilliant summation of the A.D. circa 1970's/ 80's...

every child...not just white men, but blacks, women..EVERY one

had a pretty good shot......no guarantees of success, but the possibility is there if you take it

to get as least as far........the Dream is exactly that...to get as far if not further than your parents did, and the assumption is you aren't going to slide back

as their old man got.......up to the 50's/60's success was measured by what the breadwinner....the father did, as Mom stayed home.... now things have changed....."every child"
