Your phone cannot be tracked as to where it is!
(well actually, it can but not just because you lost it. the only reason phones would be tracked would be to trace someone who had been abducted for example).
If the taxi company haven't had it handed in then you are unlikely to get it back.
Your phone company can block your SIM, so that no calls can be made from your number, and issue you a new one so that you don't lose your number.
They can also put an IMEI bar on (a handset bar) so that no SIM can be used in the handset, rendering the phone useless. At least this means that no nasty little thief can use it.
If you have insurance then make a claim, but most companies won't cover you for leaving your phone in a taxi. I'd recommend you tell a white lie (had phone snatched/ dropped in a river).

Call your number from a friends phone. Tell them that you are the police and that this (your) phone needs to be left where it's at right now, because it belongs to a missing person, tell them that you are really interested in talking to them, since they have the phone. Find out where it'll be and go get it...sounds far out but it worked for me once...otherwise you're probably going to have to get a new phone.By the way, the junkies are not the ones you need to trip on. Taxi drivers are notorious for "not finding" anything lost in their cabs...Also, don't call 911 like the dipshit ahead of me suggested you do. Leave those lines open for real emergencies. A lost phone is not an emergency of that status. Some peoples children....

you don't need the imei number you just give them your mobile number and they will block the sim card and the phone. now if you wanted your number back you would have to buy another sim card on the same network and they will transfer your number and any credit if it was pay and go on to it. get it blocked ASAP you don't want any unauthorised call chargers on there. As for tracking it the network cant do that. sorry

the phone company can find it by triangulating,,,,
but it needs to be powered on to do this..... hope you left it on, and the battery is charged.
contact the taxi company first,,,, and if no luck with that,, , contact the your phone service carrier to see if they can locate its signal,,, and at the very least, report it lost and they will block its signal so it cant be used.
have you tryed to just call your phone?,,,, maybe someone will answer it,,, and tell you were to come get it.

Telstra is the best in my experience but that's only because my mother and sister are on it too. Just don't go Vodaphone, I got a phone there and after a month or two the hardware failed, and the battery failed, and that happened to the replacement too. So yep Telstras best.

When my teenage daughter bought a nicer (+>£) mobile phone than mine I took-out additional household insurance.
£23 for a year covers a bunch of items, but there is an excess.

Well first thing I would do is ring the taxi company. There maybe some honest taxi drivers about.

not trying to be rude but in this society, you may just want to report the phone as lost or stolen, and get a new one..... If you have insurance use it... If you don't the next time you plan on getting a phone you may wanna get insurance....
