it's a 1954 farmall cub with a new 12 volt battery and won't start i think the negative charge is the problem ive moved the positive charge and the negative end blows sparks and not vice versa

Negative to ground/frame.
Positive to engine starter or solenoid.

furst make sure you have pos and neg cables to the right terminals on the battery,,,,,, then double check the connections on the starter and the ground ,,,, if sparking and or arcing ,,, sounds like a loose or dirty connection,,,,,

You are either hooking the battery up backwards or you have a huge short somewhere.
