Some make millions
other barely make enough to survive
Depends on how ell their records sell, how good their tour was and how much the cost of renting venues and paying the roadies and the producers are.

The income for musicians is extremely variable and it gets even worse if you're in the Rock business.

Things like album popularity and sales, live performance critique, singles released and concert tickets sold can all add up in the end to either positive gains or negative losses.

Your average big-name Rock star could easily earn around $5 million in a year if they're active. Such a person on hiatus might make between $1-2 million as long as their CD sales are consistent and they have a good number of paraphernalia to go around for marketing.

As for your somewhat-unheard of Rock musician they'd probably make around 3/4 million or $750,000 or around there. These types of musicians can't really go on hiatus because when you're bringing up a band it's kind of like the policy of one of the armed forces group of the US but I can't remember which one it is, their policy is "Up or Out." Basically in musical terms that means you either make it big with a band or you just disintegrate into nothingness.

As for your small band just starting out they'd be lucky to make $100,000 in a year. Small record companies have very little marketing going for them and that marketing is very concentrated and not even spread out. A lack of gear can also lead to some losses and also create more expenses. Sometimes small bands even get tricked by corrupt venue owners who don't pay them.

rock stars DO NOT have a salary. if they play small gigs they get a small amount of money from it bigger gigs like the shows metallica and slipknot and those more successful groups do bring in literally millions but most of it goes to pay for the venue the equipment and utilities used. it just depends all on popularity.

"Rock star" is not a profession with a set salary. It depends on how well they do. If you only played clubs and stuff, you'd probably make not too much, but big times they can make in the millions I guess. It all depends.

I don't know to tell you for sure.

Let's say a band sold 2 million copies of an album.
25% goes to the record lable.
15% goes to the managers
And the band, let's say it has 5 members, gets only 60% of the money. Divide it by 5, and that's what they earn from their album (normally, and album costs about 14 dollars [14 x 2,000,000= 28,000,000 x 0.25=7,000,000 x 0.15= 1,050,000. divided by 5= 210,000 dollars.])

But that's not it however. The band may tour, and from there they earn millions more.
