Drive Fifty-Five on the Highway and slower in town. Train yourself to avoid accelerating the gas pedal as little as possible. Turn off engine anytime going long distance downhill, by putting car in Nuetral and coast as much as possible. If you have enough acceleration when arriving at your destination, turn off engine and coast to your parking spot! Keep tires inflated to proper air pressure. Keep your car running effeciently and get frequent services!

Accelerate slowly and steadily. Drive a bit slower, don't speed everywhere.
Beyond that you have to change your vehicle somehow. There are no quick fixes. If your car is a guzzler, it's going to stay that way. Unless you want to upgrade the entire powertrain in an old car there's not much you can do besides getting a more economic vehicle.

Drive at a slower speed, don`t let the car idle when running errands or caught in backed-up traffic, avoid fast accelerations
and keep tires properly inflated.
