The check engine light is indicating that there is a faulty sensor or other problem. The only way you can find out the problem is to have the vehicle's computer read with a code scanner. Autozone does this for free. They can get the code and may be able to tell you what the problem is. It could be a simple fix or a complex fix. I would have this done as soon as possible. Your vehicle is fitted with a OBD II computer system so the only way to get the light out is to have the problem corrected and the codes can only be erased with a code scanner.

(Check Engine Light)
There are many components that work together in the engine to maintain optimal engine performance and economy.
A service engine soon, or check engine light indicates that there is a sensor that is reading a condition that is "out of range".
Simply resetting the light does not solve the initial cause of the problem.
Replacing a number of parts trying to troubleshoot the problem in the hopes of getting the light to stay off is a tremendous waste of time and money.
The simplest, and most economical way to alleviate your issue, is to have an engine diagnostic done by a reputable shop to determine what caused the computer to signal you to begin with. Just reading the computer codes may not find the "cause".
That being said, if per-chance you feel the need to reset the light in the hopes that it was a "glitch" of some kind, you could disconnect the negative battery terminal for a couple of minutes to clear the check engine light.

Get it looked at immediately. It could be something serious or something minor. If you have an AutoZone auto parts store in your area, they will read the code for free and advise you as to the potential fix or fixes. It is a free service. Plus if it is something that can wait you can put the fix off for a little bit. If it is a serious issue, do not let it go!

Make sure your gas cap is on correctly.
Aslo, if you get an error code - google it.
If all else fails, try buying a new gas cap

take it to autozone and they will run the scan test for free and tell you what the problem is and how much the part will cost even though you don't have to buy it from them.
