I don't really see the problem with the Mccanns. They were leaving them in a secure complex and checking on them every few minutes? Why are so many people making a big deal of this? You must all think you're the perfect parents (or you don't have kids)? They don't exactly strike me as the irresponsible type? It's a typical witch hunt.

leaving children unattended its called neglect. Most tragities and accidents happen in seconds or minutes. ALL PARENTS KNOW THAT!!!!!! Just becasue Parents chose not to leave there kids alone doesnt mean there perfect, it means they have common sense. I dont know how can defend it while knowing somehting bad came of it. I'm not saying they dont love there kids, they made an aweful desicion that they and there duaghter had to pay for. I hope it sets an example for people who leave ther little kids, even just to run to the store. Nevrer leave your kids unattended,,, how many times does it have to be said..... and yes it is a big deal when somehitng that bad comes of it. We obviously have to make a big deal out of it so people will realize its not a safe thing to do ever!!

I really wish people would give this whole McCann thing a rest as regards the parents leaving the three children alone, I know I'm going off the point slightly, but think about how guilty they must feel for leaving the kids and having this happen.

As for would I live a child on their own, even in a secure location? No, anything could happen, a fire could break out, the kids could wake up and be upset, or worse go walking about and hurt themselves, or like what happened to the McCann's; their child could be taken.

I mean, is it that difficult to locate a babysitter to watch your children for a few hours, or take them with you?
As for checking on them every half hour, even if they did, alot can happen in 30 minutes, it only take a few seconds for a fire to start and spread.

Then again, I don't have children, but as I'm one of those people who can see all these kinda problems in advance I wouldn't ever do it I don't think.

Do you know any children 'cause it sounds like you are not a PARENT!! The complex could not have been that secure!! Anything could happen to a child in a few minutes. A recent newspaper article claimed that the Mccanns were 50 meters away from the apartment- the other side of a swimming pool! Who can walk on water? I know I can't!!! For any ones information- I am a mother of 2, ages 12 and 2 years. I remember the stories of Jamie Bulger and Ben Needham- anyone else?

I would leave a child in bed and go to a restaurant if the child were a responsible older adolescent. I would certainly not leave a three year old and two one/two year olds to fend for themselves even if you could check on them every 30 minutes as they said they did. Clearly that leaves a lot of opportunity for harm to come to a child. You wouldn't send your child to a school (at least i hope not) where they would be supervised only every 30 minutes.

I have no wish to add to the McCann's pain but they were certainly irresponsible on this occassion, probably everyone is irresponsible at times. I am sure they would never make the same mistake again but the reason their child is missing now is because a vile person saw fit to take her and secondly because they were left unsupervised. This is obvious and I expect this thought has gone through Madeline's parents minds and they are probably aching with guilt. It's a lesson for us all not to leave very young children unsupervised. I am sure they are not the only ones that have unfortunately but their experience should remind those who are a bit too relaxed in childcare whether at home or on holiday that you cannot afford to take these sorts of chances. I just pray for her safe return and hope the McCanns can rebuild their lives as best they can.

I dont exactly see the problem either...the restraunt was only across the road and it was a secure complex as you said. The McCann's never knew that someone would be that mean to come kidnapp their daughter whilst she was sleeping. They just thought they were leaving their child to have a sleep other than disturbing her and making her sleep in a buggy while they were having a meal. I know the easier option would definately be to leave her be. I agree with some other people, you can't watch children 24/7...the person who has took her would have taken her at some point while unattender...either when they were using the bathroom, later that night when they were all sleeping etc,... I just hope the poor wee baybee gets found soon ... we're all praying for you hunni...xxxxxxxxx Sweet dreams xxxxxxxxx

you dont see the problem with leaving 3 small children under 3 in a hotel room themselves - you are obviously a complete idiot. the reasons are endless ie. a fire in the building, the kids waking up and wandering away, waking up alone and getting up to things they shouldn't the list goes on and on. It was totally irresponsible of the mccanns to leave them alone even if they were checking them every few mins and lets face it what would be the point in going out if they were checking them that often. apparently they were not even checking them every half hour like they said. it only takes a split second for something to happen as the mccanns found out. in my opinion i dont believe for one min that this is the first time they have done this they should have been there to look after the kids and it is their fault their daughter is missing, they neglected her and left her alone so they could go out to enjoy themselves very very selfish, they dont deserve to be parents - why have kids in the first place if you cant look after them. Everyone makes mistake when bringing up kids but this is huge you just dont leave kids alone for a second

NO! I would definitely NOT leave my children unattended to. That was totally irresponsible of those people and now their little girl has been missing one month! Whoever took that little girl could have taken all three of them! Geez, just shows you how many sickos there are in this world to snatch a little girl. Let's just hope she's OK but who knows?

The parents were checking on their children every 30 minutes but it just shows you a lot can happen in 30 minutes... I mean what if a fire broke out in the complex? The kids wouldn't know what to do!!!

Just to add... I hope that the child agencies/authorities step in because it just shows these two people are not fit to parent!!

I don't care what titles they held in society. Right is right, and wrong is obviously wrong. No I would not most definitely leave my young children alone, especially not for a meal. That is crazy, and the parents should have charges against them. They are irresponsible for making a foul decision. I just know I'm not a parent that would put my needs before my children. They knew they were in a different environment, with all the money they have they should have gotten proper childcare.

Children do awake throughout the night. That oldest child was not old enough to look after her siblings or herself. When you make poor choices as a parent, then there's dire consequences such as them not being able to find their child. If they were in America, they would have gotten hit with hard charges immediately. But their conscious will kick their butts for thinking of their bellies.

The point is, the children weren't in the secure complex, they were in an apartment outside the complex, on a public highway. The restaurant where the parents ate was in the complex and they had to go through a security gate to check on them. There was also a high hedge and a wall obscuring the line of sight to the apartment. They also left the french doors unlocked to come and go to check on them. If that's not irresponsible, I don't know what is.

As a Rule, 'it all depends upon the local circumstances.'

There is no 'Yes' or 'No' answer to the question as it is put.

I don't know all of the circumstances because, like my wife, I really don't want to read about it and involve my Self in the inner trauma I believe I might subject myself to.

I can NOT imagine what it must be like to be in their shoes, AND, I just don't want to put myself into them either.

It's a curious phenomena the way that people [the Public] can react to this kind of story - as there was one also on TV where a woman complained about the way that kids were behaving outside her house. Her complaints made it into the local Press [ especially after the video taped it all ] ....and as a result, she has become the villain of the peace, and those little darlings have accused her of just 'stirring up trouble.'

Similar to the 'Whistle Blowers' who are belittled for what they do - in showing up frauds, illegal behaviour etc, and decried as 'disloyal' etc to the Company and so on - and made out to be The Bad Guys.

A 'Warning:'

Don't Ever report a dead body on the street as you'll likely get done for ''The Suspicion of Littering'' and then ''Avoidance of Payment of the Fine' by denying you were responsible [yeah, well you would say that, wouldn't you].

Sash..
