I read that it may help dissipate heat & of course protect from corrosion. I f this is the case should I not also paint the heads & the engine case as well ? If not what type of paint should I use. Thanks, First Time Mechanic.

Your local auto supply store should have heat resistant paint made for engines. Your heads should be made of aluminum so corrosion shouldn't be an issue.
It is my opinion that to paint your heads is unnecessary. the paint could act as in insulator in turn holding heat in.The amount of heat would be negligible so if you would like to paint your heads it would be ok but only for appearance reasons.
The biggest issue the old VW engines had was oil leakage just like old Harley Davidson engines. It was mostly caused by vibration. The best maintenance was to just keep the engines clean by periodic cleaning to remove the oil and the dirt that would stick to it.

I'm sure you're not supposed to paint any internal components of the engine. But most engines are painted on the outside when they're new. But I don't think it has anything to do with heat dissipation. Also, don't polish the engine surface. If the engine is too smooth, it doesn't cool as well. And since the Beetle engine is air cooled, that's all you've got.

N N N . It doesn't dissipate heat. No paint does. The cleaner the better. Oily heads hold more heat than clean ones for the same reason. Corrosion?? Are they on drugs? No engine should be painted if you are interested in keeping it cool.

Unless its in a buggy with the engine exposed, don't paint it with engine enamel. Have it bead blasted to remove corrosion and use high temp flat black. very thin coat, just to prevent further corrosion.
Make sure all the ducting is fitted (use silicon sealer to prevent air leaks)

It's oil, gas and heat resistant. But it's kind of pricy.....
