Too big. He would not only need two of each land animal, but he'd also need one of every fresh water fish that would die in the ocean. He'd also need to travel throughout the world to collect those animals that were not native to the area.
Of course the question is really a moot point, since we already know the story originated from an old Babylonian myth.

To specifically answer the question you asked. The Ark would have had to be the size of Manhattan Island and 4 stories high including the deck to hold all the animals extant at the time. I made this assumption by allowing an average of 9 cubic feet per species.
I had a bit of extra time and to make an ark the size called for in the Bible would take over 700,000 board feet of lumber. Even the Bible's hyperbole is hyperbole. Using standard wooden ship parameters the wooden keel would have to weigh 64 tons to stand the rib stresses and provide proper rigidity.

"And this is the fashion which thou shalt make it of: The length of the ark shall be three hundred cubits, the breadth of it fifty cubits, and the height of it thirty cubits."
--Genesis 6:15
We were studying the story of Noah and The Ark one Sunday morning in my Sunday School class, and I asked my Preacher, Brother Skinner, how big a cubit was. He told me a cubit is 18 inches (1 & a half feet) long. The index in my Bible also says that a cubit is 18 inches long. That means:
18 in. x 300 cubits = 5,400 in.
&
5,400 in. divided by 12 = 450 ft.
So the ark was approximatly 450 feet long. For a modern-day example: The big HOLLYWOOD sign is about 450 feet long. Now, for the height:
18 in. x 30 cubits = 540 in.
&
540 in. divided by 12 = 45 ft.
This means the ark was 45 feet tall, about as tall as the letter H in the HOLLYWOOD sign (which is 45 feet tall). Now for the width:
18 in. x 50 = 900 in.
&
900 in. divided by 12 = 75 feet.
So the ark was 75 feet wide. The runway for a 747 jumbo jet is, at a minimum, 75 feet wide.
Now, let's put it all together: The ark was as long as the HOLLYWOOD sign, as tall as the H, and as wide as a 747 jet runway.
And lets keep in mind, due to evolution, there are thousands more animal species today than there were in Noah's time period.
I hope this gives you a good picture on the size of the ark.

We would have to know when this occurred, and analyze what animals existed in the area in which Noah lived and was aware. There is a current theory that he took eggs of some animals and incubated them; and took only young of other species. Personally, I find the entire "story" one of allegory and not factual. But that is my opinion because I am no expert. Unlike so many people on the face of the earth who were obviously there when it took place given their ability to expound on the subject.
Perhaps I was the wrong person to answer this question.

Go read the story of Noah in a King James Bible, it gives the exact measurements of the size of boat the ark was.
A cubit by the way is about 18 inches.
