I've just finished reading Wuthering Heights the 10th time and I was wondering whether:
1)would Heathcliff have been a better man(as a person) if he had not been rejected by Cathy?
2)was rejection by Cathy the impetus- the driving force that made Heathcliff stand on his own two feet and become incredibly rich?

I think that Heathcliff is just like any other person in the world... he might have been influenced positively by not being rejected by Cathy, but there is also the chance that he would ultimately been influenced negatively. I think that his reactions and personality are definitely influenced by her, but I don't really know if he would be a better or worse person. I think becoming good or bad comes from within, not from without.

I think she was definitely a driving force, an influence.
