I didnt experience it myself, but it DOES happen:
"This change in eyesight is a really strong effect for some women - maybe 10-20% or so. Within a few months of getting pregnant, they pull out the glasses that they wear ONLY when they're pregnant, and once their baby is delivered, the glasses go back into storage. But this effect doesn't happen to all women.
The eye has the cornea and the lens up near the front to bend the light so that it lands on the retina. The retina, which sends the image to the brain, is at the back of the eye. The eye is filled with some clear liquid, and some clear jelly, and is roughly the size of a golf ball. There are two main reasons for this change in focus of the eyes that some women get.
The first one is that the cornea, right at the front of the eye, gets about 3% thicker. This is because higher levels of a hormone, called progesterone, make the cells bloat up. This increased thickness changes the cornea's ability to bend light. This usually happens by 10 weeks into the pregnancy, and is back to normal by 6 weeks after the delivery. The second reason is that the pressure in the eye drops by about 8 or 9%. So the eyeball gets a touch smaller.
These two effects combine in some women, to send their eyes right out of focus, whenever they get pregnant. "

I think the doctor is advising you that being overweight (and I am not judging in anyway!) can affect how quickly you can become pregnant and also it would obviously make the pregnancy more difficult as the strain of the baby is enough without extra weight making it worse. I think losing weight (I am trying) is a good thing for anyone to do and you will absolutely be healthier for it so I guess it makes sense at any time particularly before taking on something awesome like pregnancy. Either way good luck and hope you have a happy bouncing beautiful baby :)

Yes, that is true. It's in all of the pregnancy books I have. Your eyesight may become not as sharp as it was before. I went to get contacts a couple weeks ago (I'm 20 weeks pregnant) and the optometrist would only give me a couple months worth of contacts because she said that my eyes might change due to the pregnancy. It doesn't last forever though...eyesight should return to normal after pregnancy, so don't worry. I've noticed my eyesight has become a little worse - can't read things at a distance as well as I used to, but no big deal!

No it isn't! At least for most!
Eyesight changes during pregnancy aren't uncommon, says Dr. George T. Banyas, an optometrist from Gibsonia, Pa., but he also notes that the majority of women won't experience any changes. "Changes to eyesight are the exception to the rule and won't happen to most women," says Dr. Banyas. "We aren't certain why some women do have changes in vision but believe it has to do with the amount of water weight gain that causes the cornea to thicken and become more curvy, which causes changes in focus. This isn't really surprising when you consider that the amount of water retained during pregnancy would be pathologic under any other conditions. To adjust to the increased load, blood vessels have to dilate, and this can affect the eyes."

I had been swelling something awful for months. at my ob appt i started seeing flashes like someone was flashing a camera in my eyes. I could see upwards or down but not looking straight ahead. I now get a few little star like flashes if i get over exerted but thats it and I am in my 38th week. Hope this helps, but its better to ask your dr just to be sure

Yeah your hormones make you go through some crazy stuff when you're pregnant. I couldnt see what the sign said on the freeway until I was about to leave on the exit. It affects everyone differently, but it does make your eyes go a little "jimmy" on ya.!

i am nearly 55 years old, have had several children and can't really say i have ever heard that one before. judging from experience and knowledge i would say false to your question. i didn't even need sun glasses (which i only wear outside during the day) until after 17 grandchildren and 3 great grand children. genetics probably has much more to do with your site than the children you carry. however, having children does cause insanity.

I found that in my first trimester, my vision would go blurry sometimes and I could barely read the computer screen. It got to be annoying, but the symptom lessened a bit as the pregnancy progressed.

Sort of. Hormones can affect your eyes thats why some women suddenly cant wear their contacts whilst pregnant but it corrects itself after the pregnancy!
