Maybe, but instead of "Big Brother" being a Political Union or powerful Government. I see it as the people themselves and their multitudes of conflicting organizations, Corporate business's, all broadcast networks and media and the Hollywood celebrity hypocrisy. They are watching over all of us with a high intense magnifying glass and were all getting burned and we are doing it to ourselves!

Great question. I've been thinking that for some time now. First came 'newspeak' with Reagan and other far rightists before him. They called fascist military dictatorships 'democracy' and branded elected and popular governments 'communist'. This is exactly like the newspeak in '1984': "Freedom is tyranny... ...tyranny is freedom".
Now you have bush spying on everyone. There is also a pervasive thought police mentality, where any criticisms are branded as treasonous. This is the neo-con mentality today; you hear this repeated many times on Yahoo answers.
Is there anything out of the book that hasn't come to pass?

I think America is, but that book was written in 1933 and at that time Germany and Russia already were like that.
However, they are not as Orwellian today. Well, at least Germany isn't.
We got through the Civil War, we got through the McCarthy Era, we got through the political strife of the late 60s/early 70s, and we'll get through the present political climate dominated by corporate greed as well.

Absolutely. The citizens of Myanmar still call Orwell, "The Prophet".
The only people who can't see it, are the ones who haven't read the book.
"Animal Farm" and "1984" are REQUIREMENTS for understanding the political process.

Yes, I do.
We live in an Orwellian state full of propaganda news media crap and a constant fear of terrorism from our own governmnet. What's alarming is how the Bushies will equate liberalism as terrorist activities and all the while say that they are protected by the 1st Amendment to bring religion in schools

Absolutely and this documentary spells it out in vivid detail.
Orwell Rolls Over in His Grave on YouTube.
It's very scary to see the direct parallels.
See for your self!

America is more prosperous and more free than ever before despite what the Democrat party and the traitor media want you to believe. This country is doing great. God Bless America.

Yes, I do.
And what's even more depressing is that fewer and fewer people have even read the book...
