Nod32 outperforms Norton on standard tests for identifying 100% of viruses and they have good deals for continuing the protection for the following year. It is also recommended by PC magazine and the following software analysing company. Here's a cut and paste:
Best Antivirus Product of 2006
"When you combine the speed, accuracy and advanced heuristics capabilities of ESET’s solution, it is clearly the best performing AV product on the market today." NOD32 also won the proactive on-demand detection, and highest on-demand scanning speed categories.

Nortons is only good at skilled marketing. Their software is pure junk and a hugh resource hog. Does not know a virus when it see one. Try and uninstall and you are left with over 375 fragments glued to your files, folders, registry and hidden all over your system. Real nightmare trying to find them, as they cause conflict.
Antivirus program I use. You only pay a one time fee of $29.99. and you get all updates and all new versions for life.
Read the webpage and if you like what you read this is the antivirus of choce I have used for over ten years and never one virus.
By culture the Chinese are very secret just about everything and that includes their software.
This antivirus program out of Beijing, China that is also used by the Government of China.
This antivirus program does not have the Govt. permission to be rated with all other known antivirus programs.
What I can assure you is that you pay only a one time fee for life that will include all auto updates, and all new versions for life. The Chinese don't believe in having to pay an annual fee for updates or new versions.
I can tell you their technology is light years ahead of any other known antivirus software out there.
If you open a webpage and there is a hidden virus it will clean in realtime. Anything that you download and has even a trace code, it will kill the download and ask you to upload the trace code for investigation. In real time the upload will tell you if it is clean or not.
Will not allow you download, Real Player, because there is a hidden file that is a trojan keylogger. The file was uploaded and traced back to the United States Army, Intelligence Services out of London, England. (Removal of the file Real Player will reject the installation).
Read for yourself at their webpage. I have never had one virus in ten plus years. Plus it will catch any progam with it's dynamic defense system, for software that you download and it does not have a publisher or lic., included.
Twister Trojan Antivirus V7
Very low on resources with scanner running in background.

If you prefer not to pay and wish to have a free antivirus program download the free AOL Active Virus Shield, powered by Karpersky engine Russia.

These program I have listed for you use little or no resources.

Hi.
It's an occasion to ask how do you know if AVG free is a good antivirus??!! it doesn't even scan web traffic, please go to this site and check yourself http://www.eicar.org/anti_virus_test_file.htm
nowaday many free and commercial antivirus bypass AVG. try active virus shield, avast or avira free. Commercial solutions are Kaspersky, bitdefender, twister...
Sorry, i respect AVG lovers but i repeat tests proove that it's not a good solution

Depends who you talk to.
There is not shortage of antivirus products.
The key thing is do the updates regularily.
The bigger problem is spyware / adware .malware
It will slow your internet connection to a crawl and can be downright mean.
For that adaware , spybot whatever you like
Just do the updates
Use anything but Norton
I had an incident where nothing would remove the last vestiges of a mean computer virus
I tried everything
The only thing that removed it fully was AVG
I was not a fan of AVG but use it now. It is fairly straightforward to install
( free version)
It does the updates by itself.
Popular favorites of antivirus are:
- AVG ( Free) and pro
- NOD32 ( 30 day trial)
- PcCillin 30 day trial
- Kaspersky
