Nothing, really. The word "cop" came from England, I think, because the police wore a certain uniform with copper buttons on it. So they were referred to as coppers, or cops.

depends on the location of the country you are in if in the south we have cops or troopers, in the city they are called policemen and policewomen but in all it is just the preference of the patrolman stopping you......be careful out there
