I think it is obvious that instant replay should be used in Baseball. Umpires are constantly making bad calls. I think that is why baseball isn't our National past time anymore. it has been replaced with Football, which does use instant replay. Do you agree?

Yes. Who cares about keeping with the past. We are in a changing world. Think about if we were still watching black-and-white movies despite the technology to have color? It makes no sense. If we have the technology and it has proven to be useful and consistently work (in the NFL, of course), then why not utilize it. As soon as controversial call is made (except for balls and strikes), umpires should be able to go into a dugout look on the monitor and change the call as needed. This would also speed up the game because of less arguments, ejections, fights, etc.

Replays (there is absolutely nothing INSTANT about it) work in football because there is a penalty for the coach being wrong on the appeal by being charged with a time-out. There is no way to do the same in baseball.

Hockey uses the goal cam to confirm goals since these can occur extremely quickly and can have a DIRECT OUTCOME on the game.

I personally believe when the players stop making errors and swinging at crap pitches then (and only then) can using replay be considered.

And you are wrong about baseball not being the national pastime. There is an enormous resurgence in baseball right now from Little League and Cal Ripken to Legion ball to pro ball, particularly at all levels of Minor League.

Maybe you should get off the couch and actually go watch a game.

That's a tough subject. Hardcore baseball fans are against it because it undermines the power of the umpires which is an important part of the game. Sometimes fooling the umpire is part of the baseball strategy, taking that out would kind of ruin an interesting part of baseball.
On the other hand, I do hate it when the umpires make blatantly terrible calls. I think the instant replay would slow the game down a lot, making a long game even longer. Yeah, if baseball was somehow timed, this might not be a bad idea, but its present rules disallow any sort of instant replay (an average game would come out to about 41/2 hours!).

No. when ever sports bring in the instant replay it slows the game down and the fans are the ones that end up suffering. I originally from Australia and when the brought the instant replay in the NRL the umpires would never make a decision and the games where so stop start that I stopped watching. Also I'm a big baseball fan and the umpires are always fair. They are doing a good job of calling the game the same for both teams.

I wouldn't like to see it overused. Using it to make sure a questionable homerun gets called correctly would be nice though. It wouldn't take any longer to look at a quick replay than it already does for them to gather and discuss it while the managers yell at them. If they started trying to use replay for every close tag play, force out, diving catch, or called strike 3 it would get quickly annoying and ruin the game.

Football isn't more popular because of its replay system. We all watched that Seattle/Pittsburgh SuperBowl a few years back that had many missed and questionable calls go against the Seahawks. Football's popular because it's an awesome game. As is baseball, but maybe the masses are too impatient for baseball these days.

If there is a call in question then I think they should use instant replay in baseball.

Yes instant replay needs to be used. These overpaid idiots cant see if a ball leaves the park or not?? They dont know how to interpet half the rules........i.e. earlier in the year victorino of phillie ran out of baseline at vizquel of the giants and ran into him almost at the pitchers mound and the retarded ump awarded him second base.........how stupid. They are overpaid and we should take control and money out of thier hands.

I do not agree that IR is a substantial reason why football may be more popular.

I could live with IR under tight rules of employment, specifically only for calls at the outfield wall. But it's opening the genie's bottle -- once it gets used a little bit, maybe, some might think, a little bit more would not be so bad. And a little bit more. Etc.

And by the time they came for me, there was no one left to speak up.

yes there should. because for example, when there is the rule, " the tie goes to the runner" instant replay could see if they were out or safe at whatever base the call is made at.

No way, i have been a baseball fan all my life and reviewing the play would be a waste of time and defeats the purpose of umpires. Plus, its takes the original feel away from the game.
