Most of the blood is probably maternal blood, depending on the gestational age of the baby and what exactly is going on.

I was told I had miscarried at 6 weeks when I started passing huge amounts of blood and clots. The emergency clinic doc told me to go see my doctor the next day and get a D&C to remove the remainder of whatever was left. I even started hemorrhaging in the doctor's office.

When the ultrasonographer examined me, he said, "I see ... a heartbeat!" Turns out I had a placental tear on the maternal side of the placenta, and all the blood was mine.
I ended up on bed rest for two weeks; my son will be 10 years old this August.

Bleeding during early pregnancy can be other things besides miscarriage. If a doctor hasn't checked you, see that you get an examination as soon as possible.

No, the blood will be the same as your period but heavier, the uterus lining etc etc, that has to come away. You may pass fetal material as clots (sort of - its unusual to be able to tell thats what it is though) but not necessarily. I've had 5 miscarriages and at least one of them the baby just died and the cells we re-absorbed back into my body, it was just a sac left when it was discovered I'd miscarried!

Sorry for your loss!

sorry for your loss...i wen through one back in aug 2006 and the doctor said that some of the blood that was coming out was also from the me. from the lining that was holding the baby in the womb breaking apart from your uterus wall...but i also had a d&c...i think you might need to ask your doctor and see about a d&c it really depends on how far along u were to if you need a d&c or not. good luck and keep trying if will come sooner or later. (31 weeks now)

Why aren't you in the hospital having a D&C?

I suspect all is from you and the placenta. Not any from the fetus!

You need to get this taken care of medically before you have other issues!
