We have moved into a house with a garden that looked like a jungle. We have cut everything down. Is there anything I can put down to kill everything to prepare my ground before putting turf?

DON'T use a rotovator yet ; it will just chop up the roots and they will grow back. Use a weedkiller and then use a rotovator when everything has died back.

Then you can check any number of online sites for advice on laying turf.

Glyphosate based weedkiller will destroy everything it touches and washes out of the soil in days, but it has to be absorbed through the leaves, so if you have cut everything back you may have to wait until fresh growth appears.

Sodium chlorate kills everything through the roots but stays in the soil for 6 months.

I agree with the rotovator idea, I'm in the same postition. Far better to rotovate and then lift any stumps or deep bedded shrubs than use any weedkillery things as you cant replant for quite some time if you use that.

my garden is truly a jungle, all wild and overgrown, even the bird table has lain down but at least the nieghbours cant see me. And we can always pretend to be tarzan and Jane.
