I'm getting better at making judgment calls on which I should do. I answer with long ones, if they are thorough and just doesn't give me a chance at "Best Answer Points", but actually accomplishes what this site was designed for. To give you a good answer and help with your issue. I give short answers to people who are just asking random things and are not really serious, just playing this as a game! Although since your question is about "Answers", then you fall in-between, but it's a valid question and I feel you will read a long answer and I have the freedom to be as thorough as I can be....If not, then you have already stopped reading my answer at this point and have moved on to the short answers from others. But as an "Asker", you may fully read this, since their is an unwritten obligation to do so. In turn I give answer long or short by personal judgment and I've done both and I feel I have done pretty well in most cases!

I personally think that using fewer words is the way to go. If you allow yourself to go on too much your answer can get convoluted. Especially in an instance such as this. You asked a very succinct question that can be answered in a very succinct way. Just like a yes or no answer, you could answer this with just one of two words. Short or long. So I believe that I have just proved the point that it is almost always better to answer a question in as compact a manner as possible. Plus you don't want to give people the idea that you are wordy or showing off. It's best to give short answers.

So, in conclusion, I will answer this question as follows

Few words.

Becki-some Q require more detailed answer than others, not rambling but keeping to the point. Most of my A that are chosen best have been the longer ones. Ones that go on and on and on, people tend to skip over.

It depends on the question, but I usually like to give long answers since my wordy-ness gets me best answers sometimes.

I prefer a few words like these. You won't get to many longer answers when asking in pols and surveys.

It depends on the question. However, I do hate the answers that are just cut and pasted from other sites like Wikipedia.com
