In the movie Fight Club, the narrator uses "I am Jack's... complete lack of surprise/raging bile duck/cold sweat... "

What does it mean? Is it a reference to something?

Enlighten me please.

If you notice in the movie, there was a part when Edward Norton and Brad Pitt were in the basement. Brad was riding the bike around and Edward was reading these books. They would say I am Jacks..... and then say a body part and describe what the body part does. Basically it was a body part describing it's function in the first person. Remember Edward was like, " I am Jack's colon." And then Brad says, " I get cancer and I kill Jack!"

Well they would take this style and Edward would substitute the organ with what he was feeling/thinking at the time as it would pertain to his current situation hence the," I am jacks complete lack of surprise."

Hope this helped. Watch the film again more closely and it will make sense. Love that movie!!

It's a takeoff on an old series of Reader's Digest articles about the human body with titles like "I Am Jack's Adenoids", except I think RD used a name other than Jack. In the movie, the narrator reads a similar article from an old magazine he finds in the house. The magazine is distinctively NOT Reader's Digest, probably for legal concerns.

Jack refers to Ed Norton's character (who has no name) and **spoiler Brad Pitt is obviously Ed Norton's alter-ego

It is just reflecting what Ed Norton's character is thinking
