Yes, it seems to be the latest way to be "current" and "politically correct". But like all these things, it will develop a backlash, and then it will be cool to be wasteful, environmentally not correct and "anti-green".

Yes, I think so since we are starting to see for ourselves the repercussions of our old ways.
