I used to work for a pest control company and those are carpenter bees. You need to get them treated before they cause more damage and the company can also patch the existing holes. (By the way, they don't sting. Just to let you know.)

I watched for more than 30 minutes while a carpenter bee chewed a hole in a wooden post at the North Carolina Botanical Garden in Chapel Hill. It was quite a large insect (did look a lot like a bumblebee), and it made a loud scritching sound as it scraped at the post. I would suggest that you go take a look at it, but the post, which said something like "Peace on Earth" in four languages, has been removed.

These are called "Carpenter Bees". They look much like a Bumble Bee. They drill perfectly round little holes in wood and build nests in them. My friend's house was full of them last year, they can mere destroy a home if there are a lot of them. She patched the holes with the bees still in them to try and prevent more damge to her home, she used wood filler, and they did not find their way back out.

yes. I was working with wood and saw these holes. I was like where did these come from? There were bees coming by. Bees do that often. They find a nest anywhere.

carpenter bees(like geolicious said) make holes and r similar to bumblebees. but that hole might have already been there and he (the bumblebee) was preparing his nest in a premade hole.

No, what you saw was a carpenter bee. They look and sound like bumblebees but they are much bigger.
