SPOILER ALERT: The Vanishing
in my VERY limited experience, using the American and European versions of this film is fairly representative of one of the differences. Americans like (wait! i mean Hollywood seems to THINK Americans like) happier endings with everything tied all up in a bow at the end and all spelled out.
in The Vanishing (if memory serves)(in a nutshell)--
French--wacky guy kidnaps girl, boyfriend searches for girl, wacky guy tells boyfriend he will show him what happened to girl, boyfriend gets buried alive and dies just like girl did, wacky guy goes on unpunished. (see, not happy)
American--wacky guy kidnaps girl, boyfriend searches for girl, wacky guy tells boyfriend he will show him what happened to girl, boyfriend was going to be buried alive [girl was buried alive and is now dead] but boyfriend's new girlfriend saves boyfriend, wacky guy gets his head split by shovel. (not exactly happy ending [especially since dead girl was foxy Sandra Bullock] but only one innocent dies and the wacky guy gets his head split open (and yes, when his head split, i was VERY happy...is there a therapist in this forum board?).
and, yeah, i'm American and i did prefer our ending. i guess Hollywood may be right. go figure.

Well since I am American but living in Germany, I prefer American movies mostly, but on occasion I love BBC movies, especially films like Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead, but those show in the states, so Final Answer: American!

I'm European but I have to say I don't like most European movies, French films are too artsy for me.
I like Guy Ritchie's films a lot and one or two others.
I prefer American films. Too spoiled by Hollywood

i used to live in scotland and that time in my life still has bearing on my tastes for music and especially comedy (benny hill, aint half hot mum, faulty towers, the young ones.)one thing i have noticed about euro films is race seems to be a non factor in story lines.
