Last August or September, I made two purchases from a company that does home parties; one I did online, the other from the consultant. They totalled over $150. Both were paid using my debit Mastercard. No money has been withdrawn from my checking account for either transaction. I verified that the correct account number was used in both cases. The company shows that I paid. What are the chances that they will discover the mistake and then take the money out? It's annoying having these things outstanding when balancing my checkbook, but I don't want to put them back in my checkbook and then end up bouncing something when they discover the mistake.

Having worked at a bank for 15 years, I have seen this happen time and time again. As long as someone has your account number and bank routing number (ABA number), they can draft your account anytime they want. You may have to go thru a lot of red tape to receive your funds back if this happens. I would suggest closing the account and reopening another account just to be sure they do not draft the account later down the road. If they want to collect the funds from you, they will send you a bill in the mail, I'm sure. Just my thoughts......hope it helps.
